Richard Ries Portfolio

I am a seasoned proposal writer with 10 years of experience in the federal marketplace. Previously, I taught upper school English at elite prep schools (17 years), so I bring passions for rhetoric and storytelling along with expertise in grammar, punctuation, style, and voice to the table. I hold a B.A. in English from the University of Wisconsin, an M.Ed. in secondary English education from Temple University, and an M.A. in technical writing from the University of Central Florida. In this site I provide select writing samples and give a broad overview of the technical topics I have written on. I am known for penning mission-focused, client-focused, hard-hitting prose that is clear, concise, consistent, compliant — and compelling. My “secret Spidey strength” is taking a “red” volume with various writers and one-voicing it into an authoritative “gold” volume that eliminates passive voice, awkward patches, repetition, crowing, and confusion. I turn engineering, technical, and scientific topics into readable, approachable, convincing stories.
